Enjoy an exciting and memorable river kayaking experience in the South East of Ireland and just 1.5 hours from Dublin city. Few of the locals are even fully aware that some of the best River Kayaking in Ireland is hidden away in the valleys of Ireland’s Ancient East . This kayaking experience has a test for everyone which will take you into your adventure zone! The Irish Experience team are qualified instructors and Irish Canoe Union members will make your day on the river a fun filled and unique Experience!

Option 1 – Kayaking the River Barrow

The Barrow is a well-kept secret in Irish tourism. We believe the only true way to experience this magnificent river is by kayak!

Perfect for river kayaking the barrow winds its way through six counties, across changeling but fun rapids, through fantastic forests unspoiled by us humans and down into picturesque villages steeped in history and culture. We will take you on a unique journey full of adventure, wildlife, peace, tranquility and into the villages with wonderful local people and fantastic surroundings.

Meeting Location :

Graiguenamanagh, is a beautiful little town in Kilkenny, only 1.5 hours away from Dublin. It is located on the R705 regional road at the foot of Brandon Hill. This is our ending point and you will meet The Irish Experience team on the Quay (riverside) beside the boat club. From here we will make our way to our starting point upriver to get geared up for the day’s river adventure.

River KayakingOption 2 –  Kayaking the River Slaney

This beautiful river carves its way through Wicklow, Carlow and Wexford, across changeling but fun rapids and slides. There is picturesque scenery at every turn in the river and a variety of wildlife scurrying in the corner of your eye.  In midsummer time this river is often too shallow to kayak, but when the river is on point it is a fantastic experience that equals the high standards of the river barrow (above).

Meeting Location :

You will meet The Irish Experience team at the Riverside Park Hotel Enniscorthy. Enniscorthy is a beautiful and ancient little town in County Wexford, only 1.5 hours from Dublin. What a day with The Irish Experience crew! We took the Slaney, starting from near Bunclody all the way into Enniscorthy town (a distance of around 16km) starting from a slow moving shallow part of the river so we could get used to the kayaks and the basics of paddling. Graham gave excellent advice and reassured some of the group who were nervous at first, but soon everyone was taking the rapids with ease. Cruising along with the current, you can see a side of the country not many get to, I couldn’t recommend it enough!

Do you want to go on an adventure?
I would recommend river kayaking by The Irish Experience to everyone. I went on a full day river kayaking experience last month with my friends and Graham was our tour guide.
We started our tour early in the morning, firstly Graham give us equipment necessary for kayaking and them briefly explained what to expect from the tour and we were off. I had never been in kayak before or done a similar activity, I wasn’t sure what to expect, so first few minutes were challenging but Graham was very patient and professional with few of us that couldn’t manage kayak right away. As our tour progressed we all started to get comfortable with kayaks, but few rapids that were in the river tested our new learned skill.
I just wanted to say a massive thanks to Graham, thank you for tasty hot chocolate you made on our lunch break, getting us from start to finish in one piece and giving us The Irish Experience.
Wishing you and team much deserved success.

We were delighted when a friend gave my husband and I a sea-kayaking adventure gift voucher. We met Graham at Fethard-on-sea on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and spent an amazing day exploring the coast from there to Baginbun Bay and Carnivan. We stopped off on the beach and Graham made us a wonderful hot chocolate to sustain us on the route back. I highly recommend a day out on the sea exploring this part of the coast with a knowledgeable guide. Thanks again Graham, we’ll be back!
